This is the most popular one day trip from Manado to Minahasa Highlands to witness the beauty of Lake Linow and Lake Tondano. Manado is the biggest city in Northern Celebes. In his journal, Alfred Russel Wallace a British naturalist who visit Manado in 1859, he describe Manado as the most exotic place on Celebes Island. Then, go to the top of Temboan hill where you will see the panoramic view of Minahasa highland.
After an-hour drive beginning in Temboan, we arrive in Linow Lake. At this place, you will see various geothermal manifestations such as hot springs, fumarole, and also mud pool. Move to Tondano Lake, a site where the life cycle of important flora and fauna takes place, and water source that is used for agriculture, and domestic use. Tondano super volcano were explode in 2.5-2 million years ago where the area of explosion with size 20×30 square km, a half size of Yellowstone super volcano in US. More of geothermal activities in the crater area and the steam were used to be electric power. Continue to see the sacred large stone of nine Minahasa tribes known as Watu Pinawetengan. If there’s still time left, you will have a short visit to Tekaantelu waterfall and Waruga Burial Complexes, the burial stones of Minahasa native people in the past.
